Relocate with FYST: Q&A session with Olga, an immigration specialist at FYST

We interviewed our immigration specialist, Olga, and gathered all the information about how FYST supports an employee relocation process.

1. Can you tell me about your role at FYST?

I started my professional journey as an immigration specialist at FYST over a year ago and became a member of the people operations team.

My main task is to obtain and renew residence permits in Latvia for our relocated employees and their family members. Additionally, I provide assistance in resolving various migration issues in collaboration with government institutions and state authorities.

2. What was your experience like as a candidate?

I applied for the immigration specialist position at FYST on LinkedIn. After some time, I received an email from a recruiter inviting me to an online interview. Our conversation was smooth and efficient, and I had the opportunity to speak with my future team lead.

After the interview, I received a job offer and visited the office, where I met the people operations team in person and saw the premises and working environment. I realized that this where I wanted to work.

3. How was your experience with the onboarding process?

Thanks to my colleagues, my onboarding process was smooth and enjoyable. I received all the necessary materials and information, had an office tour, and was introduced to colleagues from other departments.

Over the next few weeks, I gradually got up to speed and learned new things. During the probationary period, I had the opportunity to meet with HR and my team lead to share my first impressions. Their support helped me integrate into the company quickly.

4. What makes your FYST team so special?

I believe the main strength of the people operations team is the diversity of its members. We all have different experiences and work approaches, and while we may have varying points of view, our core values are quite similar.

The most important thing is that we share a common goal: to work towards the development and prosperity of our company.

5. How does FYST support employees and assist with relocation?

When a business need arises and an employee expresses the desire to relocate to Latvia, the company provides financial support, the amount of which depends on the position.

In turn, as an immigration specialist, I assist with the preparation and execution of the necessary documents for applying for and obtaining a residence permit.

6. What types of residence permits does FYST offer?

In most cases, we offer employees regular employment with annual registration. For highly qualified employees, we apply for EU Blue Cards.

In addition, Ukrainian citizens can currently obtain temporary protection status in Latvia. As of now, 30% of the company's employees hold a residence permit.

7. What advice would you give to someone who is looking to relocate to Latvia?

First, I would advise studying the available information about moving to and living in Latvia. Second, discuss this option with your direct manager and relatives, as relocating to another country is a significant step in anyone's life.

Finally, once you have made the decision, you can contact me to discuss the process of document preparation and all further actions. This way, we can find the optimal and most suitable solution for each specific relocation case.

8. Do you have any tips you’d like to share with those who'd like to join FYST?

Be yourself, take initiative, and bring fresh and interesting ideas to the management. Don’t hesitate to ask your colleagues for help, it's normal. Work hard, pursue what you love, and love what you do. Continuously develop professionally, learn new things, and share your knowledge with your colleagues.
